To ball or not to ball..that is the question, well for all ballers out there we take a look at the exquisite and extravagant life style of the bling culture or more specifically bling in the customization scene. What is Bling and what does it have to do with customization? Bling was originally used by the Hip Hop culture to describe jewelry, it’s origins literally stand for items or accessories made of flashy material. Flashy stones such Diamonds, Crystals, Rhinestone or Swarovski are used to depict this culture and emphasize a trend that is fast growing into customization heaven.
Since our main focus is set on the customization arena, we are quickly going to look at the type of items that are being totally iced out on a carat level never seen before. One item that caught my attention was a jeweled Pepsi can worth $100 000 US dollars made of diamonds, sapphires and rubies. Who in the world would purchase that except maybe a thirsty King?
Iced refrigerators by LG and Gorenje using thousands of crystals from Swarovski to a car that leaves little for the imagination, you think a Mercedes SL600 is cool? Well how about one kitted out with over 300,000 crystals? Sounds good heh..oh did I mention that it will only set you back $4.8 million. How about a diamond studded skull? This unique creation by artist Damien Hirst cost him $20 million to make and it was sold for $101million!!! Moment off silence please…..$101 MILLION!!!. Well if that is a bit over the top for you then perhaps I could interest you in an iced out toilet with a $75 000 flush tag(for that kinda cash I wanna sit on my throne when Im working at the office, movies or having lunch at home..maybe that’s just me)
One thing is certain diamonds are forever and with fashion trends blowing way out of proportion and high status rankings among the tried and tested continue to evolve, then the bling culture will continue to grow reaching epic popularity. This is certainly an iced out ambience influencing they way we view trends creating individualism among a clustered group who seek the artistry to stand out. Trends come and go but bling is here to stay.
